One block in Park Oaks has won the city’s best-block award two Decembers running. Creekcrest Circle, the half-circle loop off Oakbrook Drive near Mercy San Juan Medical Center, took the Holiday Village category in the Best Lights in Citrus Heights contest in both 2024 and 2025. So around here the competition isn’t theoretical. It’s down the street, and it has the title. Park Oaks Christmas light hanging is what we do for the neighbors who’d like to keep up without giving a Saturday to the roof. Start with a call to (916) 510-0929.

What the contest record says about this part of town

The City started the contest in 2019, and residents nominate homes in categories such as Griswold (the brightest), Holiday Village (best block), Santa’s Favorite (best overall), Snow Globe (inflatables) and Sleigh the Theme. By our reading of the city’s area map, a good share of recent winners sit in or right beside Park Oaks:

    • Creekcrest Circle: Holiday Village in 2024 and again in 2025.
    • Individual Creekcrest homes: Griswold in 2023 and Sleigh the Theme in 2025.
    • Peoria Drive: a house with a large tree done in blue lights won Griswold in 2025.

Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church on Dewey Drive adds a large manger display to the mix. The Santa’s Favorite and Snow Globe prizes have been going to Karen Rae Court, up in the Sylvan Old Auburn Road area. In 2025, nominations closed in the second week of December, so a house that goes up late can miss the whole thing. If a win is the goal, book early.

A neighborhood area is not an HOA

Park Oaks is Neighborhood Area 5 on the city’s map, the part of town south of Greenback Lane and west of San Juan Avenue, with Park Oaks Park on Park Oaks Drive as its namesake. (Birdcage Heights is just across San Juan Avenue.) It’s a city-organized neighborhood association. There are no dues, anyone with an address or a business here can take part, and the group meets at Advent Lutheran Church on San Juan Avenue. It doesn’t issue decorating rules and it can’t fine you for a reindeer. A few individual subdivisions or condo complexes inside the area may carry their own CC&Rs, though. If yours does, read us the holiday decoration section at (916) 510-0929 and both of our trips (lights up, then lights down in January) get booked to suit it. We won’t guess at dates for you.

Park Oaks Christmas light hanging on 1970s houses

The city’s own housing report says more than 86% of Citrus Heights homes were built before 1989, and almost 40% in the 1970s, mostly as tract houses. If yours is one of them, tell us what you’ve got: how long the front eave runs, how wide the garage is, and how big the tree out front has grown.

A long, low eave is the best canvas there is for roofline lights. Our clips grab the gutter or the shingles’ edge, and staples stay out of old fascia, which has been through enough. A mature shade tree takes a trunk wrap carried up into the first big limbs, and tree wraps that size eat a lot of light, so we bring plenty. Porch posts, where there are any, get pillar wraps. Stake lighting runs beside the driveway and the lawn edge, with stakes set away from sprinkler heads (around a fifty-year-old sprinkler system, we go gently). The garage peak or the front door gets a wreath, garland frames the entry, and both are lit. Houses of this age sometimes have exactly one outdoor outlet, so we plan the cord runs around it and a single timer runs the lot.

Lighting a whole court at once

Best-block awards don’t go to one house. If you and a few neighbors on your court want to go in together, we can plan the houses as a set, with matching rooflines and one install trip, and take them all down together in January. One person calls (916) 510-0929, everybody texts photos, and we quote each house separately so nobody has to do math at the block party.

Quotes for one house or the whole court

All quotes are by phone or photo. Send pictures showing the street side of the house, tell us what you have in mind, and we’ll say what we’d do. Reach us at (916) 510-0929, or drop the pictures on the contact form. We bring the lights, we do the ladder work, we fix anything that goes out, and we come back for all of it after the holidays. The general rundown is on our Christmas light hanging services page.

Creekcrest Circle has the title. Your court can have next year’s.

    Things Park Oaks folks ask

Is Park Oaks an HOA with holiday light rules?

No. Park Oaks is a city neighborhood area with no dues and no decorating rules. Only a subdivision or complex with its own CC&Rs would have any, and if yours does we’ll plan around what they say.

Can Park Oaks Christmas light hanging be done in time for the Best Lights in Citrus Heights contest?

If you book early. Homes are nominated through the City, whose contest page has the details plus a map of nominees. In 2025 nominations closed in the second week of December, so have your lights up well ahead of that.

My Park Oaks house has only one outdoor outlet. Is that a problem?

Not usually. We plan the cord runs to start from that outlet, keep them tucked against trim, and put everything on one timer.

Can you wrap a very large, old front-yard tree?

Yes. We wrap the trunk and carry the lights into the first big limbs. Text a photo and we’ll tell you how far up makes sense.
